Objectifs scientifiques et projet de recherche

The IRN LiStat aims at creating a network of scientists based on the IRD partnership dedicated to the development of statistical approaches for ecology and life sciences (hereafter referred to together as "Life Sciences"). Our initiative meets a strong and broad need to address the pressing challenges related to climate change and the biodiversity crisis, among others. Our initiative is also fundamentally transversal within IRD since it concerns scientists from several scientific commissions (CSS), departments, and UMRs. The IRN LiStat will promote: ● the mastery of statistical approaches in life sciences and ecology, ● data analysis, statistical models and predictions, ● contributions to global issues regarding biodiversity, health, and exploited ecosystems, ● the emergence amongst southern partners of a community network to share skills and experiences, ● open science as a standard practice, ● the sustainable reinforcement through meaningful partnerships and bilateral transfer of knowledge, fostering capacity building and increasing the driving force of Global South partners with respect to the data analysis’ end of research projects, ● South-South and South-North exchanges. The group identified at this stage is designed to embody the IRN LiStat before opening it to a much larger community. Colleagues from several institutions are already identified, coming from different countries, of which two are listed as least-developed countries (PMA). Colleagues of the civil society (e.g. Yannick Badaï - BigEye - Ivory Coast or Rocio Joo - Global Fishing Watch - Mexico) are already targeted to join the initiative. An application for training funding (PSF) will be submitted to IRD during summer 2023.
